From the President: A belated THANK YOU for electing me President of the Birchwood Civic League. Doug Daughtry set a HIGH BAR for the office of President and I only hope that I can measure up to the challenge. Meeting attendance has been down along with membership renewals. Membership is the life blood of any organization along with participation. You can make out your membership check of $15 (per family) to: Birchwood Civic League and mail it to: Karen Lamb, Treasurer The January meeting had Jerald D. Banagan from the Assessor's Office, who spoke on "Home Assessments" in Virginia Beach. Lots of good information. The March meeting had Patricia Cook, who is the Central Librarian at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library. Mrs. Cook is looking for any and ALL history about Virginia Beach, especially anything about Military people, who reside in the area. You can contact her at the Library. I spoke with her yesterday and she said the our Civic League was the smallest group that she had given a presentation, but it had the largest turn-out of participation in her quest for VB Historical Information. Many donations of historical significance and some volunteers. Needless to say, she was ecstatic with our response. " WAY TO GO BIRCHWOOD". The Birchwood Civic League has formed a "DREDGING COMMITTEE". The dredging will only affect those properties that are considered "WATER FRONT" and only those properties will have a taxable impact. No non-water front properties will have any taxable impact. The chairman is: Ron Midgette Ron has been working closely with the city engineers on this project and is highly educated on the process and working of this project. Ron asks that anybody with water front property interested in learning more about this project to contact him at the above address or e-mail. He also asks that rather than speaking with individual property owners, interested property owners should get four of five neighbors that will be affected by the dredging together and he will explain everything to the group rather than individually. Please feel free to contact Ron at your convenience for more and direct information on the dredging. Please feel free to FORWARD any information contained in this message to all interested parties. Until he May meeting on the 15th, I remain yours in service, Robert "GRAMPS" Branyan
